Whether mandated by regulatory agencies or not, many operators are proactively choosing to put an anti-freezing agent above their water-based annular fluid to protect against casing integrity failures resulting from thermal expansion and contraction. Historically, the anti-freezing agent has been diesel. Due to environment, health and safety concerns, operators are opting away from the use of diesel in this application.
